We will move from Bangladesh to Australia to meet Ya'nan (Nancy) Yang in March 2014.
Nancy is an experienced social worker. She has provided her expertise to family and community centers in Hong Kong and Singapore while completing her master degree in Social Work. Prior to this, Nancy worked for Compassion for Migrant Children in Shanghai, China as well as a senior consultant in Ernst & Young Advisory Ltd after getting her bachelor degree in Law. With passions to solve changes faced by migrant children, Nancy is on her way to integrate APLP experience with her next career path. We look forward to more updates from Brisbane, Australia where she has started new life with her family.
March for you, Nancy!

Where I am now after APLP?
Dearest G12 Ohona! Hope all is
well with everybody. I am also quite well. Helping me and helping the
community. Well, just immediate after the first semester in Hawaii, I returned
back to Dhaka and I supposed to go to Western Michigan University for the
second semester. Though I got
substantial funding for working as a visiting fellow at the Western Michigan
University, but finally I couldn’t make it up due to some of y family issues
including my marriage! Ha ha ha…. However, I finally decided to stay in
Bangladesh (for second semester) in my previous job as a lecturer in
Occupational Therapy. Then, after over seven years of waiting I got married in
March, 22, 2013.
I am still in the same job though
I tried (after APLP, through last year) for three different leadership positions
(coordinator of two projects and Rehabilitation Manager) in my organization. I was not offered for two different posts out
of three as I don’t have any masters’ degree yet. I was offered for a position
(early of this month) called Coordinator for School of Orthotics and
Prosthetics- responsible for leading a new academic program first even in
Bangladesh. But I was not able to accept the offer because I need to stay in
Bangladesh for this job at least one year. Actually, I am planning to do my
masters in September 2014.
I have already applied and got
offered from some universities (mostly UK and few in USA) for doing masters in
Health Planning, Policy and Management/Public Health (except Public
Administration at the University of Hawaii). I am now waiting for the outcome
of my scholarship application, which will come through from time between
May-July. I changed my career plan after
APLP, previously, I was focused on occupational therapy teaching which in now
health management/public health.
By the way, I faced some
difficulties (while applying for my masters programs) using APLP as an academic
certificate qualification. Majority of the universities wanted a transcription
of the program but as you know we don’t have any transcription yet for APLP.
So, later on I used it as just a fellowship. It is just a situation with you
all.
Beside my regular job, I am involving
doing and publishing research. After coming back from Hawaii, three of my researches
have been published. Research is limiting my amusement in many ways. I am
sorry, I supposed to post every week but couldn’t due to my boring research.
However, finally, I hope to see
you all in someday, somewhere !!!
